Chapter 12 - The Giver

Jonas has seen beyond again. The first time was to see the apple in the air and the second one was the audience at the ceremony. The third one, this time, happened when he saw Fiona’s hair. He asked the Giver about this and he told him to start seeing the color, Red. The second training started with transmission of Rainbow.

The colors definitely reflect our lives. When I was young, if someone has asked me what my favorite colors are, I would have answered “Black and White”. So, at that time, all my things are just in black and white.  On recall of my childhood until adolescence, I was abnormally strict and stubborn and I might have tended to think things only in black and white without moderate stance.

As time goes by, I’ve changed a bit. Now, if someone asked me my favorite color, I can’t choose just one of beautiful colors. This is because I’ve recognized the beauty of each color. Admitting the different attraction of colors made my life more colorful and made me more open-minded. Not dividing things in black and white, it is one of great qualities of human beings to acknowledge and respect the differences. In addition, it would also lead some values including the mind of great capacity.

However, in Jonas’s community, all the people went to Sameness and they even abandoned colors. Let’s take an image of the world where people don’t accept the difference. There can’t be any deep-intimacy or sympathy on human beings as well as the creativity which can develop the society amazingly. Hell NO!
